Fewer, more considered choices

Responsibility at Josephine is considered through how we produce, what we produce and the materials we choose.

We design in New Zealand and manufacture in small quantities with trusted production partners offshore, selecting materials with longevity in mind and considering the impact of the choices we make along the way.

We don’t have every answer, but we believe responsibility comes from being deliberate about what we make, how we make it and how much we make.

PACKAGING

We consider responsibility through every part of the product journey, including how Josephine is packaged and delivered.

Our sew-in labels and hangtags are manufactured in partnership with one of the world’s leading labelling companies, using certified recycled materials and FSC-certified materials respectively. Our packaging is recycled, and we work with our suppliers and distribution partners to reduce unnecessary packaging where we can.

MANUFACTURING PARTNERS

Josephine is designed in New Zealand and made offshore with trusted production partners we have worked with for many years, including well before Josephine was established.

We’re fortunate to work with manufacturers who are highly experienced in their fields and share our commitment to considered production.
We’re proud to have them as part of Josephine, and grateful for the expertise and care they bring to every stage of production.

Our Supplier Code of Conduct sets out the standards we expect across our supply chain, covering ethical and environmental practices, working conditions, health and safety, wages, transparency and traceability.
It is informed by internationally recognised frameworks including the International Labour Organisation’s Core Conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Our manufacturers agree to these standards as part of our ongoing partnerships. We take a collaborative approach with our partners, building long-term relationships and continuing to improve the way we work together.

MATERIALS

We prioritise natural fibres and select fabrics for their quality, feel, movement and longevity. Where we develop custom fabrics, they are woven exclusively for Josephine, allowing us to develop the textile alongside the design.

We also produce in small quantities. Rather than producing more than we need, we make considered runs designed around the scale of our collections.

MINDFUL FASHION NEW ZEALAND

We’re proud members of Mindful Fashion New Zealand, a not-for-profit organisation working towards a more sustainable and inclusive clothing and textile industry in Aotearoa.

Being part of the organisation gives us the opportunity to learn, contribute and stay connected to the wider work happening across our industry.
